RI – Rights Issue
Capital raising offers giving existing shareholders the right to buy additional shares at a discounted price
What is RI – Rights Issue?
A Rights Issue is a corporate action where a listed company offers its existing shareholders the right to purchase additional shares directly from the company. The shares are offered in a specific ratio (e.g. 1 new share for every 10 shares held) at a discounted price to the prevailing market price. Shareholders receive Rights Entitlements (REs) in their demat account, which can either be exercised to buy shares, renounced (sold on the exchange), or left to expire.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Rights Issue?
A Rights Issue is a method for listed companies to raise fresh equity capital from their existing shareholder base instead of the public. Shareholders get the right to buy discounted shares in proportion to their holding on the record date.
What are Rights Entitlements (RE) and how can I trade them?
When a rights issue is announced, the company credits Rights Entitlements (REs) to the demat accounts of eligible shareholders. REs represent your privilege to apply for discounted shares. REs are actively traded on stock exchanges under a temporary ticker for a limited window (Rights Renunciation Period). If you do not wish to buy the shares, you can sell your REs on the exchange to lock in profits.
What are the choices available to a shareholder in a Rights Issue?
1. Subscribe in full: Apply for the allocated shares and pay the discounted issue price.\n2. Renounce in full: Sell all your REs on the stock exchange to another buyer.\n3. Partial Action: Apply for a portion and sell the rest.\n4. Do nothing: Let the REs expire. **Caution:** Doing nothing is highly discouraged as your overall share holding percentage will be diluted, and the value of your portfolio will decrease without compensation.
How to apply for a Rights Issue?
You can apply online through your bank's Net Banking portal using the ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) facility. You will need to select the Corporate Actions/Rights Issue menu, enter your DP ID, PAN, and specify the number of shares you want to apply for (up to your RE holding or more for additional allocation).
