❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is GMP (Grey Market Premium)?

Grey Market Premium (GMP) is the unofficial price at which IPO shares are traded before they are officially listed on the stock exchanges (NSE/BSE). A positive GMP indicates high demand, while a negative GMP indicates low demand. GMP is not regulated and should be used only as a sentiment indicator.

How can I apply for an IPO?

You can apply for an IPO using your demat account provided by your stockbroker (like Zerodha, Groww, Upstox, Angel One) or directly through your bank's net banking portal using the ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) facility. UPI-based applications are also supported for amounts up to ₹5 lakhs.

What is the difference between SME IPO and Mainboard IPO?

Mainboard IPOs are for large, established companies listed on NSE/BSE and require a smaller minimum investment (usually around ₹14,000-₹15,000). SME IPOs are for Small and Medium Enterprises, have smaller issue sizes, trade on BSE SME or NSE Emerge, and require a larger minimum investment (usually ₹1 Lakh or more).

What is Cut-off Price in an IPO?

Cut-off price means you are willing to pay whatever price is discovered through the book-building process. Retail investors applying at the cut-off price have a higher chance of allotment as they are not rejected due to price mismatch. It is always advisable for retail investors to apply at cut-off price.

How is IPO allotment done?

IPO allotment is done via lottery for oversubscribed issues. SEBI mandates that every retail investor who applied gets at least one lot if possible (minimum lot allotment basis). For heavily oversubscribed IPOs, lots are allotted randomly. The registrar manages the entire process, and results are published on the BSE/NSE website and registrar portal.

What is ASBA in IPO?

ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) is a facility where the IPO application amount is blocked in your bank account instead of being debited. The money is only debited when shares are allotted. If you don't get allotment, the block is released automatically. This protects investors from loss of interest during the IPO process.
