Gold purity is measured in Karats (K), which represent the ratio of pure gold to other metal alloys in the material. The higher the karat, the purer the gold. Understanding these differences is essential for making informed investment and jewellery purchasing decisions: • 24K Gold (99.9% Pure): This is gold in its absolute purest form, containing no other metal mixtures. However, 24K gold is extremely soft and malleable, making it highly susceptible to bending and scratching. Therefore, it is not suitable for everyday jewellery. It is primarily cast into gold bars, bullion, and coins for long-term wealth preservation and investment. • 22K Gold (91.6% Pure): Consisting of 22 parts pure gold mixed with 2 parts other metal alloys (such as copper or silver to add hardness). 22K gold is highly popular and widely preferred for traditional, intricate Indian gold jewellery. While it is more durable than 24K gold, it remains relatively soft and can still be easily scratched. • 18K Gold (75.0% Pure): Comprising 18 parts pure gold and 6 parts other metal alloys (such as copper, silver, or nickel). 18K gold offers the perfect balance between a rich golden luster and high durability. Because of its structural strength, it is widely considered the absolute best choice for diamond-studded and gemstone-loaded premium jewellery, providing a secure hold for precious stones. • 14K Gold (58.3% Pure): Consisting of 14 parts pure gold and 10 parts other metal alloys. 14K gold is exceptionally durable, highly resistant to daily wear, and extremely budget-friendly. This makes it the ideal choice for active daily-wear accessories, such as engagement rings, daily bands, and necklaces. • 10K or 9K Gold (37.5% to 41.7% Pure): These are the hardest, strongest, and most affordable gold alloys available. Because they contain a higher percentage of base metals (such as nickel, zinc, or copper) than pure gold, they are extremely tough, scratch-resistant, and do not bend easily, making them suitable for heavy-duty daily wear.
